Unidentified individuals created a series of tokens amid news of Twitter rebranding

Twitter owner Ilon Musk plans to change the name of the social network to “X” and abandon the iconic blue bird in its logo in favour of a black colour scheme. In the wave of hype, unknown people have created a number of themed coins.

Twitter’s rebranding could take place as early as today, 24 July.

“Soon we will say goodbye to the Twitter logo and, gradually, to all the birds,” the billionaire wrote.

In addition, the social network’s website may move to a new domain X.com, registered back in the late 90s for one of Musk’s financial startups. Now it already redirects users to the microblogging platform.

The steps proposed by the businessman will give a start to transform Twitter into a large-scale ecosystem similar to WeChat. For the same purpose, Musk established technology firm X Corp. as the social network’s parent company in March.

The crypto community has been mixed on the idea of rebranding the popular platform – according to Hypebeast, there are more than 1 billion tweets about digital currencies between 2020 and 2022.

Trust Machines Chief Marketing Officer Dan Held called the decision to rename the “iconic” Twitter “crazy.”

Cryptoblogger Tiffany Fong and podcaster Peter McCormack said they have no intention of abandoning the use of the social network’s original name.

More details about the “X” concept were given by Twitter head Linda Iaccarino. According to her, the social network will have “unlimited interactivity”, support several multimedia formats, as well as payment and banking functions. Without elaborating on the details, Iaccarino added that the updated application will be powered by artificial intelligence.

Amid news of Twitter’s upcoming update, unknown people have launched a number of tokens branded “X” on decentralised exchanges. Their quotes range from $0.00000026 to $0.21.

Recall that on 1 July, Ilon Musk introduced “temporary” limits on viewing tweets. According to the businessman, the decision is due to the “extreme level” of data parsing and manipulation of the system. He did not name a timeframe for lifting the restrictions.

Against this backdrop, lesser-known microblogging applications began to gain popularity, and on 4 July it became known about Meta’s plans to launch an alternative to Twitter – the Threads application.

Soon Twitter threatened to sue Meta Platforms over this initiative.
